Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the tragic shooting incident in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, which occurred on February 10, 2026, resulting in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries. In a heartfelt statement released this evening, he expressed his sorrow and extended condolences to the families affected by this senseless act of violence.
“I am devastated by today’s horrific shootings in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. My prayers and deepest condolences are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones to these horrific acts of violence,” Carney stated. He emphasized the profound impact such events have on communities, saying, “I join Canadians in grieving with those whose lives have been changed irreversibly today, and in gratitude for the courage and selflessness of the first responders who risked their lives to protect their fellow citizens.”
In his remarks, Carney highlighted the resilience of Canadian society in times of crisis. “Our ability to come together in crisis is the best of our country – our empathy, our unity, and our compassion for each other,” he noted. His comments reflect a collective sentiment of mourning and solidarity felt across the nation.
The Prime Minister has been in contact with British Columbia Premier David Eby to convey his condolences and discuss the response to the incident. Eby, who held a press conference after 20:00 local time, addressed the community’s needs and outlined the support measures being implemented.
In coordination with the provincial government, Minister of Public Safety Gary Anandasangaree is overseeing the federal response to ensure that Tumbler Ridge receives the necessary assistance. According to official statements, federal and provincial officials are in close communication to facilitate support for the impacted community.
“Our officials are in close contact with their counterparts to ensure the community is fully supported as best we can. The Government of Canada stands with all British Columbians as they confront this horrible tragedy,” Carney affirmed.
