New ADHD Centre Opens in Edmonton, Offering Comprehensive Services
A new centre dedicated to supporting individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has officially opened in Edmonton, Alberta. The Neuro Wise Edmonton ADHD Centre, located on the west side of the city, consolidates multiple services under one roof, providing a comprehensive approach to care for those affected by ADHD.
The centre features a team of seven specialists, including psychologists and dieticians, who offer a range of services such as assessment therapy, academic support, coaching, social skills groups, parent education, and community workshops. All services follow a “neurodiversity affirming approach,” emphasizing the importance of recognizing and supporting individual differences.
Yaara Shabtai, co-founder and CEO of NeuroWise, conceived the idea for the centre after experiencing firsthand the challenges of navigating the healthcare system while seeking support for her child. “We went to see different clinicians. First of all, it was very busy; it was also very fragmented. The clinicians were not talking to each other, and nobody made sure that we have one integrated plan that we can follow,” Shabtai explained in an interview with CTV News Edmonton.
Comprehensive Facilities to Enhance Support
The centre is designed to create a welcoming and calming environment for clients. It includes a therapy room, a group room, and a sensory room, all aimed at facilitating effective treatment and support. Shabtai emphasized that ADHD impacts various aspects of life, making it essential to have multiple services available in one location. “Having multiple services under one roof will make it easier to support a person’s life,” she stated.
Despite the comprehensive offerings, it is important to note that services at the Neuro Wise Edmonton ADHD Centre are not covered by Alberta Health Services and will instead be accessible through private insurance. This aspect may present challenges for some families seeking support.
The centre officially opened its doors on Saturday, providing a much-needed resource for the Edmonton community. With a focus on integrating care and support, Neuro Wise aims to alleviate the difficulties faced by individuals with ADHD and their families.
As the centre begins its operations, it represents a significant step forward in addressing the complexities of ADHD care in Edmonton, offering hope and assistance to those in need.
