Aces Dispensary Set to Open Doors in Plainfield This Holiday Season
Plainfield, Illinois, will welcome its second marijuana dispensary, Aces, which is set to open its doors before the end of December 2023. Owner Monsaur Othman announced that the dispensary is awaiting its final inspection from the Illinois Department of Financial Professional Regulation. With all village clearances secured and staff training completed, Othman is optimistic about the upcoming launch.
Located at 12627 S. Route 59, Aces will be Othman’s flagship store, adding to his portfolio of three other dispensaries. The 3,500-square-foot space is designed to resemble a high-end poker lounge, reflecting Othman’s passion for the game. “I’ve always had a love of poker, and I wanted to design the space more like a poker lounge,” he said. The dispensary will feature plush seating, a coffee bar, and a custom poker table that doubles as a check-in desk, creating a unique atmosphere for customers.
Othman aims to shift the typical perception of dispensaries by offering an upscale experience. “What we’re trying to do is create an exclusive feel,” he explained. “I’d love to change the standard hippie look of dispensaries. We’re very excited to show what we can do in this industry.” Visitors will enjoy complimentary coffee and hot chocolate with their purchases, alongside promotions that include themed playing cards redeemable for discounts and prizes.
In addition to the retail space, Othman owns nearly three acres surrounding Aces, which he plans to utilize for community events such as smoke nights, concerts, and a potential Christkindlmarket in 2024. “We couldn’t get that together for this year, but next year, we think it would be a good space for it,” he noted.
Originally scheduled to open in September or October, Othman faced delays due to utility connections and the final inspection process. He hopes to launch a soft opening in the week leading up to Christmas, with a grand opening following shortly thereafter. Aces will have extended operating hours, open from 08:00 to 21:00 Monday through Thursday, and until 22:00 on weekends, with Sunday hours from 10:00 to 21:00.
With a deep connection to the community, Othman shared, “I was born and raised in Chicago, but I’ve lived in Plainfield for 10 years. Opening this store here was important for me.” He believes that Aces will contribute positively to Plainfield’s growth, projecting first-year sales between $7.5 million and $9.5 million, with a more ambitious target of $10.5 million for subsequent years. This could generate around $250,000 in annual tax revenue for the village.
Despite the village’s lack of comment on the sales tax projections, Othman is enthusiastic about the potential impact of his new venture. Transitioning from a background in healthcare to the cannabis industry five years ago, he remarked on the evolving landscape of marijuana businesses in the area. “Plainfield took a slower approach to getting into this business,” he explained, but now recognizes the importance of capitalizing on this new revenue stream.
As the anticipation builds for Aces’ opening, locals and visitors alike look forward to a fresh approach to cannabis retail that promises to blend community engagement with an upscale shopping experience.
