UNBC Student Keira Emes Begins Internship at BC Legislature
Keira Emes, a recent graduate from the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), has been selected for an internship with the British Columbia Legislature. Emes is one of twelve students across the province chosen for this prestigious program, designed to provide practical experience in political processes and governance.
The internship gives students a unique opportunity to engage directly with legislative operations. Participants will work closely with Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and their teams, gaining insights into the workings of provincial politics. This initiative aims to foster the next generation of political leaders by offering them hands-on experience in a real-world setting.
Emes, who completed her degree in Political Science, expressed excitement about the opportunity. “This internship is a tremendous chance to learn how government functions and to contribute to meaningful work within the legislature,” she stated. Her involvement represents a significant step in her career aspirations in public service.
In the current cohort, the twelve interns come from various academic backgrounds, reflecting the diverse interests in political engagement among students. They will participate in workshops, networking events, and practical assignments throughout the internship, which spans several months in 2023.
The program is designed not only to enhance the interns’ understanding of legislative processes but also to encourage civic engagement among young people in British Columbia. The BC Legislature emphasizes the importance of involving students in politics, aiming to inspire them to consider careers in public service.
Emes’s selection is a testament to her hard work and dedication during her time at UNBC. As she embarks on this new journey, she joins a growing network of young professionals committed to making a difference in their communities and beyond.
