KPU Students Launch Unique Beer Varieties at Langley Pub
Students from Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) have introduced an innovative range of craft beers at CAMP Beer Co. in Langley, British Columbia. This collaboration marks a significant achievement for the university’s brewing program, showcasing the creativity and skills of student brewers. Each month, two distinct beer varieties crafted by these students will debut at the popular local pub.
The initiative not only allows students to apply their brewing knowledge in a real-world setting but also helps them gain invaluable industry experience. The first two varieties launched include a crisp lager and a hoppy IPA, both carefully developed to reflect the students’ unique brewing styles and preferences.
September 2023 saw the first official tasting event, which attracted a crowd of beer enthusiasts eager to sample the students’ work. The event was well-received, with many attendees praising the quality and flavor profiles of the new beers. Feedback from the public serves as an important aspect of the students’ learning process, as they refine their recipes based on consumer preferences.
This partnership with CAMP Beer Co. provides KPU students with a platform to showcase their talents beyond the classroom. It also enhances the pub’s offerings, bringing fresh and innovative products to local patrons. The collaboration reflects a growing trend in the craft beer industry, where educational institutions partner with local businesses to foster creativity and practical experience.
The students involved in this program expressed excitement about their brews reaching the public. One student noted, “It’s thrilling to see our hard work come to life in a product that people can enjoy. We aimed to create something unique and representative of our skills.”
Looking ahead, KPU plans to continue this initiative, releasing new brews every month. This not only promotes student engagement but also strengthens community ties as local residents sample the innovative creations.
In addition to enhancing the students’ practical skills, the program emphasizes the importance of sustainable brewing practices. Students are encouraged to explore eco-friendly methods and ingredients, aligning their brewing philosophies with the growing demand for sustainable products in the beverage industry.
As the program progresses, KPU aims to expand its collaboration with other local businesses, potentially leading to more unique brewing opportunities. The integration of education and community engagement through this brewing initiative stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering talent and innovation in the craft beer arena.
The launch of these student-created beers not only showcases KPU’s brewing program but also highlights the vibrant craft beer culture in British Columbia. As students continue to experiment with flavors and brewing techniques, the local community can look forward to a diverse and exciting selection of beers in the coming months.
