Ford Issues Recall for 1.5 Million Vehicles Over Camera Issues
Ford has announced a recall affecting nearly 1.5 million vehicles in the United States due to defects in the rearview camera system. The issue, which has been confirmed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), involves the camera potentially displaying a distorted image, showing intermittently, or appearing completely blank when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.
The recall encompasses a wide range of models from 2014 to 2020, including certain Lincoln vehicles. While there is currently a temporary fix available, Ford plans to implement a final remedy by June 2026. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by mail and are advised to bring their cars to a Ford dealership for inspection. If necessary, the rearview camera will be replaced at no cost.
Details of the Recall
This recall highlights a growing trend in the automotive industry, where several manufacturers, including Ford, have faced similar camera-related issues in recent months. The defect can compromise safety, as a functional rearview camera is crucial for preventing accidents while reversing.
The affected models include:
– 2015-2019 Ford Flex
– 2015 Ford Explorer
– 2015 and 2019 Lincoln MKT
– 2015 Lincoln MKZ
– 2015-2016 Ford C-Max
– 2015-2016 Ford Escape
– 2015-2016, 2018-2019 Ford Taurus
– 2016 Ford Fusion
– 2019 Ford Fiesta
– 2020 Ford Mustang
– 2025 Ford F-150
– 2026 Ford Escape
– 2026 Ford Explorer
– 2026 Ford Transit Passenger Van
– 2025 Ford Ranger
For vehicle owners, it is recommended to check the recall status online through the NHTSA website or by using their vehicle identification number (VIN).
Next Steps for Vehicle Owners
Although Ford has provided a temporary solution, the absence of an over-the-air update option complicates matters for many affected owners. The vehicles involved lack the technology for remote fixes, meaning physical inspections at authorized service centers are necessary.
Ford’s commitment to safety is evident as it takes steps to rectify this situation. The company has expressed its dedication to resolving the camera issues and ensuring that all vehicles meet safety standards. Owners can expect further communication regarding the final remedy once it becomes available.
In light of this recall, Ford aims to maintain transparency and support for its customers, addressing concerns about vehicle safety and performance. As the automotive landscape evolves, manufacturers must remain vigilant in addressing defects to uphold consumer trust.
