Morris Hospital has announced an expansion of its healthcare services in Ottawa by introducing gastroenterology services. Effective immediately, patients can visit Stephanie Mickley, an advanced practice registered nurse, at 1300 Starfire Drive for a variety of digestive health concerns.

Mickley brings over 27 years of nursing experience to the role, with 14 years specifically focused on gastroenterology. She became a certified nurse practitioner in 2020 and is equipped to handle a wide range of conditions, including abdominal pain, heartburn, acid reflux, bloating, irregular bowel movements, and hemorrhoids. Additionally, she specializes in complex issues such as Barrett’s esophagus, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and lymphocytic colitis.

“I want people to know that there is so much we can do to help with gastrointestinal and digestive issues,” Mickley stated. “I understand people can feel shy when discussing symptoms with a provider, but there’s no reason to feel embarrassed. We ask questions to help get us closer to addressing the symptoms and helping patients return to normal.”

The addition of gastroenterology services is part of Morris Hospital’s commitment to enhancing patient care in the region. The gastroenterology department also includes Dr. Afreen Hyder, a qualified gastroenterologist. Patients seeking appointments can contact the hospital at 815-941-9320 to schedule visits in Morris or Ottawa.

This expansion reflects the hospital’s ongoing dedication to addressing the healthcare needs of the community and providing accessible specialist services.
