The DeKalb Public Library is set to host a free workshop on October 26, 2023, to teach attendees essential skills for repairing personal books. The event will take place at 2 p.m. in the library’s lower-level Zimmerman Meeting Room, located at 309 Oak St, DeKalb.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn various repair techniques, including how to assess damage, perform simple repairs, and even photocopy and tip in missing pages. Instruction will cover methods such as reinforcing book corners, erasing pencil marks, tightening hinges, and preventing water damage. Additionally, attendees will learn how to address torn pages, align text, and secure loose pages.

While the workshop focuses on personal book repair, it is important to note that library materials will not be eligible for repair during this session. The event is designed for individuals who wish to preserve their own collections and is open to all community members interested in enhancing their book preservation skills.

No prior registration is required for this workshop, making it accessible for anyone looking to participate. For more information, interested individuals can reach out via email at [email protected] or call 815-756-9568, extension 2150.

This workshop presents a valuable opportunity for book lovers and collectors to gain hands-on experience in caring for their personal libraries.
