Xiaomi Fires Executive Over Confidentiality Breach, He Denies Claims

Xiaomi has terminated the employment of its General Manager of China Marketing, Wang Teng, due to allegations of leaking confidential company information. This decision was communicated through an email from the Xiaomi Group’s Ethics Committee, which cited serious breaches of trust. Wang, however, has publicly denied any wrongdoing.
In a series of posts on his personal Weibo account, Wang stated that rumors regarding his dismissal are unfounded. He firmly denied accusations of selling company secrets for financial gain. Despite his denial, he acknowledged that he has engaged in some form of misconduct, expressing a desire for introspection regarding his actions.
Wang’s statement included an apology to his colleagues and gratitude towards Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder, and other company leaders for their support during his tenure. “I feel very ashamed and want to apologize to everyone; I made some mistakes in the past and accept the consequences that come with them. I would like to thank Mr. Lei and all the company leaders for their training and trust over the years; I am very reluctant to leave,” he wrote. Wang also expressed his intention to continue supporting Xiaomi and its REDMI brand moving forward.
Xiaomi’s Market Position and Future Prospects
Known for producing affordable smartphones, Xiaomi has gained significant traction in China and across various parts of Asia, positioning itself as a competitor to established brands like Apple and Samsung. The company not only manufactures smartphones but also offers a range of accessories and household appliances aimed at budget-conscious consumers.
Recently, Xiaomi has taken bold steps to enhance its technological capabilities. Unlike many Android manufacturers that rely on suppliers like Qualcomm or MediaTek, Xiaomi is developing its own chipsets. Collaborations with companies such as Leica have also aimed to improve the photography features of its devices.
In a recent development, a leak suggested that the upcoming Xiaomi 16 smartphone may feature a secondary display on its rear, indicating the company’s commitment to innovation. While the practicality of such a feature remains to be seen, it reflects Xiaomi’s ongoing ambition to differentiate itself in a crowded market.
As the company navigates this executive departure, industry observers will be keen to see whether Xiaomi can maintain its growth trajectory and continue to innovate in an increasingly competitive landscape.
