Driver Flees Police, Crashes into Building in Kitchener

A driver from Waterloo is facing multiple charges after allegedly attempting to evade police during a traffic stop, resulting in a crash into a building in Kitchener. This incident occurred on March 14, 2024, around 17:30 local time, when officers attempted to pull over a black Nissan near the intersection of Victoria Street South and Lawrence Avenue.

According to the Waterloo Regional Police, the driver accelerated at a high rate of speed, lost control of the vehicle, and ultimately collided with a residential property. The police reported that the crash caused significant structural damage to the building. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries stemming from the incident.

Following the collision, both the driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot. Police quickly apprehended the pair and took them into custody. The driver, identified as a 21-year-old man from Waterloo, now faces multiple charges, including flight from police, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and driving while under suspension. The passenger, an 18-year-old male from Woolwich Township, has been charged with failure to stop after an accident.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and the events leading up to it. The police have emphasized the dangers of fleeing from law enforcement, highlighting the potential risks to public safety.
