Canada Unveils $2 Billion Military Aid Package for Ukraine

Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a substantial military aid package for Ukraine, valued at $2 billion. This initiative includes the provision of drones, armoured vehicles, and other munitions, aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s defense against ongoing Russian aggression. The announcement came during Carney’s surprise visit to Kyiv on August 24, 2025, coinciding with Ukraine’s Independence Day celebrations.
Details of the Military Support
This military aid package was initially unveiled by Carney at the G7 Summit held in Alberta in June. During his visit, he detailed how the funds will be allocated to address Ukraine’s pressing defense needs. Approximately 40 percent of the package will be directed towards procuring essential military supplies, which include vehicles, arms, and medical equipment.
In addition to these immediate needs, around one-third of the funding will support the acquisition of items prioritized by NATO. This includes advanced equipment from the United States, munitions, and enhanced air defense capabilities. Canada will also invest in acquiring drone technologies, counter-drone systems, and electronic warfare capabilities, reflecting a comprehensive approach to Ukraine’s security requirements.
Humanitarian Efforts and Reconstruction Support
Alongside the military assistance, Prime Minister Carney announced an additional $31 million in humanitarian aid. This funding is intended to assist Ukraine in its reconstruction efforts in the years to come, highlighting Canada’s commitment to supporting the war-torn nation beyond military aid.
As the conflict continues, the Canadian government emphasizes its ongoing support for Ukraine in both military and humanitarian capacities. The latest aid package represents a critical step in reinforcing Ukraine’s defenses while also addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of its citizens.
This report originates from the Canadian Press and underscores Canada’s proactive stance in international support for Ukraine amid the prolonged conflict with Russia.
