Analyst Confirms iPhone Fold Will Not Feature Under-Screen Touch ID

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has clarified that the anticipated iPhone Fold will not include under-screen Touch ID functionality. This assertion counters earlier speculation regarding the device’s biometric capabilities. Kuo’s insights come amid ongoing discussions about the design and features of this innovative smartphone.
In a recent blog post, Kuo explained that the thinness required for the iPhone Fold makes it unlikely that the device will incorporate Face ID technology as well. While he did not completely dismiss the possibility of Face ID appearing in the future, his focus remains on the lack of under-screen Touch ID. According to Kuo, the iPhone will instead utilize Touch ID through the side button, a feature that was initially introduced in the iPad Air 4 in 2020, which Apple celebrated as an “incredible feat of engineering.”
Kuo emphasized that the decision against under-screen Touch ID is based on both technical and design considerations. The challenge of maintaining the device’s sleek profile while integrating advanced biometric technology is significant. The side button Touch ID offers a practical solution, allowing users to unlock their devices conveniently without compromising the overall design.
As the release of the iPhone Fold approaches, anticipation continues to build. Apple has yet to announce an official launch date, but analysts predict that the device could be unveiled in late 2024 or early 2025. The iPhone Fold is expected to offer a unique folding design, catering to users seeking innovation in their smartphones.
With Kuo’s insights shedding light on the iPhone Fold’s features, it is clear that Apple is prioritizing a balance between cutting-edge technology and user-friendly design. As the tech giant moves forward with its plans, industry watchers will be keenly observing how these decisions impact the market and consumer reception. The iPhone Fold represents not just a new product, but a potential shift in how smartphones are designed and utilized in everyday life.
