Woodstock North achieved a resounding victory over their crosstown rivals, Woodstock, with a commanding score of 49-0 on October 27, 2023. This win not only solidified their place in the playoffs but also showcased a record-setting performance by senior running back David Randecker.

The Thunder’s dominant display was highlighted by their ability to score a touchdown on every possession, all of which came from their rushing attack. Randecker’s contributions were particularly noteworthy as he surpassed the previous school record of 2,375 career rushing yards. After the game, he expressed his gratitude, stating, “It feels amazing. It helped being able to play on varsity as a sophomore, but honestly, I want to thank my teammates and my coaches for being willing to trust me with the ball.” Randecker led the team with 168 rushing yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Thunder Offense and Defense Shine

Quarterback Parker Halihan also played a pivotal role in the Thunder’s victory, scoring three touchdowns with runs of 17, 16, and 1 yard. He attributed the team’s success to their preparation, saying, “We trust our linemen, and they made the difference tonight. We came in here focused and ready to go.” Other contributors included Braden Schnake, who added an 11-yard touchdown run, and George Kingos, who scored on a 35-yard run.

Defensively, Woodstock North was formidable, limiting the Blue Streaks to just 37 rushing yards and 102 passing yards. Defensive back Jr Fadahunsi noted, “Our defense capitalized on some opportunities. We had a couple of picks, we made plays when we needed to, and overall, our defense played great.” The Thunder’s defensive highlights included interceptions by Conlan Leese and Fadahunsi, as well as a fumble recovery by Aaron Christofalos.

Looking Ahead to the Playoffs

With this decisive win, Woodstock North improved their record to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play. They are now poised for the playoffs, with their upcoming opponent to be determined. Halihan emphasized the importance of continued hard work, stating, “We know that it will be a difficult game no matter who we play next week, so we need to keep working hard at practice and hopefully we can keep it rolling, but we’re confident.”

Conversely, Woodstock, now at 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the conference, is also likely to enter the playoffs for the first time in 16 years. Head coach Mike Brasile expressed excitement for the opportunity, saying, “We’re excited, really excited about playing playoff football, and we’ll work this week getting ready for the playoffs.” Quarterback Caden Thompson completed 13 of 23 passes for 102 yards, with teammate Matthew Cress catching five passes for 52 yards.
