Morris Hospital Honors Julie Robbins as November Fire Starter
Morris Hospital has recognized Julie Robbins, an ultrasound technologist from Shorewood, as its Fire Starter of the Month for November 2023. This accolade highlights Robbins’ dedication to patient care and her longstanding commitment to the medical field, a journey that began nearly three decades ago.
Robbins has devoted 29 years to Morris Hospital, where she has made significant contributions to her patients and colleagues. Her passion for helping others was evident from a young age, although she initially struggled to identify the right career path. It was not until she discovered a book on medical careers at Joliet Junior College that she learned about ultrasound technology, which ignited her interest and set her on a fulfilling professional journey.
In a statement, Erin Kotowski, Morris Hospital’s assistant vice president of ambulatory services, praised Robbins, saying, “Julie is a staple in the Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists office and has given so much to the organization over the last 28 years, including training all of our new ultrasound techs.” Kotowski added that Robbins has built a reputation for excellence, with many patients specifically requesting her during appointments.
Robbins’ career with Morris Hospital began after her time at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago, where she met Dr. Douglas Toussaint, an obstetrician and gynecologist at the time. His enthusiasm and compassion left a lasting impression on her, motivating her to join his team when an opportunity arose at Morris Hospital.
Her colleagues also recognize Robbins’ positive influence. Michelle Dennett, a licensed practical nurse who nominated Robbins for the award, emphasized her dedication: “Julie makes everyone around her want to be better and encourages everyone to strive for excellence. She goes above and beyond for her patients and always delivers excellent care.”
Robbins attributes her satisfaction in her role to the people she interacts with daily. “I love working with people who want to make a difference in the lives of our patients,” she stated. “When I am in a room with a patient, my mission is to make them feel comfortable in what can be an uncomfortable situation. I enjoy getting to know my patients and helping them have a positive experience.”
Through her unwavering commitment and compassionate approach, Julie Robbins exemplifies the spirit of service that Morris Hospital seeks to promote. Her recognition as Fire Starter of the Month not only honors her achievements but also highlights the impact one individual can have on a community through dedication to healthcare.
