Country Music Week Kicks Off in Kelowna with Community Celebration
Country Music Week officially commenced in Kelowna, Canada, with a vibrant community pancake breakfast on September 9, 2023. Organized by the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA), the event is set to celebrate the best in Canadian country music, culminating in the CCMA Awards on Saturday, September 13, 2023.
The pancake breakfast took place in the 300 block of Bernard Avenue, where local residents gathered to enjoy a sense of community and camaraderie. The event featured an energetic entrance by members of the Westbank First Nation, who welcomed attendees with drumming and a traditional dance. Kelowna Mayor Tom Dyas expressed his pride in hosting such a significant event, emphasizing its global appeal. “I know Kelowna is ready to host one of the largest events in country music in Canada, attracting an audience from all over the world,” Dyas stated.
The excitement was echoed by Lisanne Ballantyne, President and CEO of Tourism Kelowna, who highlighted the readiness of local tourism and hospitality businesses to welcome visitors. “This week, we are excited to say ‘Howdy!’ and ‘Come on in,'” she noted. A dedicated team will be available at the Delta Grand Hotel on Water Street to assist visitors with information about the week’s events.
As the pancake breakfast concluded, rising star Teigen Gayse entertained the crowd with a performance that included a debut of her new song, set to be released later this month. Gayse was nominated for Breakthrough Artist or Group of the Year for the 2024 CCMA Awards, showcasing the talent that the event aims to celebrate.
The week promises an array of activities leading up to the awards ceremony on September 13, with a full calendar of events available for those interested in participating. Country Music Week in Kelowna not only spotlights the art of Canadian country music but also enhances the city’s recognition on an international stage.
