Community Rallies for Two Dogs Facing Heartworm Treatment

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth urgently seeks community support to provide lifesaving treatment for two dogs suffering from heartworm disease. Django, a two-year-old dog currently at the **Stratford** centre, has recently tested positive for this serious condition, which can be fatal if left untreated. Simultaneously, Oscar, a four-year-old dog at the **Kitchener** centre, received the same diagnosis during routine examinations.

Heartworm disease is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. A single bite can introduce microscopic larvae into a dog’s bloodstream, where they develop into adult worms that reside in the heart and major blood vessels. Without timely intervention, this disease can lead to irreversible organ damage.

Rising Medical Costs for Urgent Care

The Humane Society is facing an uncommon situation, as both dogs require complex and lengthy treatment. Together, Django and Oscar’s estimated medical expenses amount to **$10,000**. This cost will cover a series of treatments over the next two months aimed at eliminating both adult worms and larvae. Throughout this period, the dogs will remain in the care of the humane society until they are healthy enough for adoption.

The organization’s veterinary team, animal care staff, and dedicated volunteers are committed to supporting Django and Oscar throughout their recovery. “This holiday season, we’re asking our community to help give Django and Oscar the gift of health,” stated **Victoria Baby**, chief executive officer of the humane society. “Your donation will support their treatment and help ensure they each have the chance to enjoy many more holidays in loving homes.”

Any funds raised beyond the **$10,000** goal will be allocated to support other animals in need of medical care. The humane society emphasizes that contributions, no matter the size, can significantly impact the lives of these dogs and others in their care.

The community’s response will not only assist in the immediate treatment of Django and Oscar but also foster a spirit of compassion and support for all animals in need. As the holiday season approaches, the humane society hopes that individuals and local businesses will come together to help these two dogs find their way to recovery and into loving homes.
