Community Mourns the Loss of Kathryn Ann Bortolussi

Kathryn Ann Bortolussi, a beloved member of her community and devoted mother, passed away on August 31, 2025, after a brave battle with illness. Surrounded by family, Kathryn leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and commitment that touched the lives of many.
Kathryn was married to Kevin Bernardo and is survived by their two daughters, Olivia and Evelyn. The family, including her parents Roy and Cheryl Bortolussi, her siblings, and numerous extended family members, are mourning the loss of a woman who exemplified kindness and grace.
Legacy of Love and Dedication
Kathryn was known for her unwavering support of others. Friends and family describe her as compassionate and empathetic, always prioritizing the needs of those around her. Her warm spirit and generous heart endeared her to many, making her a cherished figure in her community.
A proud academic achiever, Kathryn was inspired by her relatives, Zia Lorraine and Zio Peter, to pursue a career in law. After earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Western Ontario, she continued her education at Michigan State University and the University of Ottawa, culminating in a Juris Doctor degree.
It was during her time at university that she met Kevin, and the couple married in 2012, building a life together in Ottawa. Kathryn’s greatest pride came from her roles as a mother and wife, as she encouraged her daughters to grow into strong, independent young women.
Remembering Kathryn
Kathryn’s love for family and the joy she found in traditions were central to her life. She cherished visits to Sault Ste. Marie, where she spent time with loved ones, creating memories filled with laughter and warmth. The holiday season held special significance for her, as she loved celebrating with family, sharing meals, and gifting thoughtful presents.
The family expresses deep gratitude to all who supported Kathryn through her illness. Their heartfelt thanks extend to Dr. Mark Murphy and the medical teams at Toronto General Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and The Ottawa Hospital, whose care and compassion were invaluable during her treatment.
In accordance with Kathryn’s wishes, her cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held on September 6, 2025, at 09:00 at Our Lady of the Visitation Parish in Ottawa, followed by interment at Hope Cemetery. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for September 13, 2025, at 14:00 at St. Gregory’s Parish in Sault Ste. Marie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or a charity of choice. As they navigate this profound loss, the family hopes to honor Kathryn’s memory through acts of kindness and love, reflecting the values she instilled in them.
Olivia and Evelyn shared a touching message, stating, “Mommy, we know you tried so hard. We love you so much.” Kathryn’s impact will resonate in the hearts of her family and friends for years to come.
