The Best Western Plus Barclay Hotel in Port Alberni successfully hosted its annual Festival of Trees, themed “The Reason for the Season.” This festive event, which took place in December 2025, featured 16 beautifully decorated trees, each representing local businesses and organizations.

Each participating entity contributed $250 for the opportunity to showcase their uniquely adorned trees in the hotel lobby, with the trees provided by the hotel. Visitors attending the festival were encouraged to vote for their favorite tree, with a two-dollar fee for each vote.

Jackalynn Meyer, front desk manager at the Barclay Hotel, highlighted the charitable aspect of the event, stating, “All proceeds from this event were donated directly to Ty Watson House, helping to support their incredible work providing compassionate end-of-life care and comfort for those in need.” The festival managed to raise a remarkable $3,350 for Ty Watson House, which aids individuals and families during difficult times.

Community Engagement and Contributions

The Festival of Trees not only celebrated the spirit of the season but also fostered community involvement. Each year, the hotel selects a different charity to benefit from the event, ensuring that the funds raised have a direct impact on local residents.

The tree that garnered the most votes from the public was the “Polar Express” tree, decorated by the Best Western Barclay’s Pastimes team. This recognition reflects both creativity and community spirit, drawing attention to the festive atmosphere surrounding the event.

The Top Donor award, presented to the team with the highest contribution, was claimed by Coreen Hooper. The second-place honor went to the Magnolia Childcare Society, demonstrating the competitive yet charitable nature of the festival.

As the holiday season brings communities together, events like the Festival of Trees play a crucial role in promoting goodwill and support for vital local services.
