The Yukon Party has secured a decisive majority in the recent election, winning 14 out of 21 seats in the Yukon Legislative Assembly. Following this victory, Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon communicated his confidence to Yukon Commissioner Adeline Webber, who subsequently invited him to form the next government.

This invitation marks the beginning of a government transition process that Dixon described as fulfilling the mandate for change that Yukoners voted for. In a press release dated November 5, 2023, Dixon expressed his commitment to enacting the changes that have been anticipated by the electorate.

Transition Team Composition

Dixon announced the formation of his transition team, which he emphasized comprises seasoned public servants with a strong understanding of governmental operations. The team includes Jason Bilsky, former chief executive officer of the Yukon Hospital Corporation; Katherine White, a former deputy minister of finance in Alberta; and Eric Schroff, the Yukon Party vice-president.

Jason Bilsky brings significant experience, having led the Yukon Hospital Corporation since 2012 before retiring in fall 2024. He is a chartered professional accountant, which adds financial expertise to the team.

Katherine White has an extensive background in public service, having served as the deputy minister of finance under former Yukon Party premier Darrell Pasloski beginning in 2015. Her career also includes roles as deputy minister of jobs and economy and most recently, deputy minister for Treasury Board and Finance in Alberta under Premier Danielle Smith of the United Conservative Party. White has also held the position of chief economist for the Alberta government.

Meanwhile, Eric Schroff has a solid track record as a former assistant deputy minister of Community Services and Economic Development, further bolstering the team’s capabilities.

Future Developments Expected

As the Yukon Party prepares to take office, additional information regarding the transition and the incoming government is anticipated in the coming days. The focus will likely be on how the new administration plans to address the priorities and concerns of Yukoners as they embark on this new chapter in governance.

With the Yukon Party’s majority secured and a capable transition team in place, the upcoming government is poised to initiate the changes that the electorate has expressed through their votes, setting the stage for a new era in Yukon politics.
