The City of Richmond is enhancing its cultural landscape with vibrant art exhibitions across three prominent venues. The Richmond Art Gallery, situated within the Richmond Cultural Centre, presents a selection of contemporary artworks from regional, national, and international artists. Currently, visitors can explore the multi-media exhibition by Manuel Axel Strain, which runs until November 9, 2023. A highlight of this showcase is the intricate Coast Salish longhouse, a vital symbol of Coast Salish culture, traditionally constructed using local materials.

This exhibition features a diverse array of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, family photographs, and videos, alongside the longhouse installation. For further details about the gallery and its current exhibitions, interested parties can visit the Richmond Art Gallery’s official website.

Across from the Richmond Art Gallery, the Richmond Cultural Centre Annex houses the Annex Gallery, which is dedicated to exhibiting the works of local artists residing in Richmond. The current exhibition, titled “Companionship and the Cosmos,” features the distinct styles of Sofiya Mukhachova and Quinton Qiu. Qiu’s segment showcases a portion of his larger project, “Wander with Taichii,” inspired by his everyday walks with his cat. In contrast, Mukhachova presents visually striking interpretations of cosmic events through her paintings. This exhibition will be available for viewing until January 4, 2026.

The third venue, the City Hall Galleria, located on the ground floor of City Hall across Minoru Boulevard from the Richmond Art Gallery, focuses on artworks that reflect themes and subjects closely associated with Richmond. This exhibition space also collaborates with Aspire Richmond, aiming to highlight the multi-media works of local artists. The current exhibit at the City Hall Galleria is set to conclude on November 10, 2023.

Richmond’s commitment to the arts is evident through these initiatives, supporting creativity and cultural expression within the community. As the exhibitions continue to attract visitors, they play a crucial role in enriching the local cultural fabric and providing a platform for both established and emerging artists. For more information regarding opening hours and specific programs at these venues, please refer to the Richmond Art Gallery’s website.
