Ottawa police have announced a reward of $75,000 for information regarding the disappearance of Corey Baldwin, a local man whose case has now been classified as a homicide. Baldwin, who was in his early 40s at the time of his disappearance in April 2019, was last known to be in the Montreal area. Investigators believe he may have traveled to British Columbia shortly before he was reported missing in December 2019.

Investigation Details and Background

During a news conference held on Wednesday, police provided updates on Baldwin’s case. Homicide Detective Chris Benson emphasized the importance of public assistance, stating, “We know there’s people in the Montreal area, we know there’s people possibly in British Columbia, in the Ottawa area that have information on Corey’s last moments prior to being murdered.” He urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to help advance the investigation.

Authorities have not located Baldwin’s body and have refrained from disclosing the specific details that led them to conclude he was murdered, citing the ongoing investigation. Previous statements from police indicated that Baldwin would not have left his family, which includes two young daughters, without a solid explanation.

Since Baldwin’s disappearance, Ottawa police have pursued multiple tips, none of which have resulted in significant progress. They described Baldwin as a bald white male, approximately five feet ten inches tall, weighing 232 pounds, with grey-blue eyes and various tattoos on his arms, legs, and back. He hailed from Greely, a rural community in the City of Ottawa.

Police Incentives for Information

Wednesday’s announcement highlights a strategy employed by Ottawa police, who have at times offered monetary rewards for information leading to arrests and prosecutions in unsolved cases. For instance, in September 2024, they similarly offered $75,000 for information regarding the murder of Roger Dale Lusk, who was fatally stabbed. Despite these efforts, the Ottawa Police Service has yet to issue any reward payments.

As the investigation into Corey Baldwin’s disappearance continues, authorities remain hopeful that the newly announced reward will encourage individuals with knowledge about the case to come forward. The police are committed to solving this case and bringing closure to Baldwin’s family.
