Google has begun rolling out the Wear OS 6 update for its Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3. This significant upgrade, which is also pre-installed on the upcoming Pixel Watch 4, enhances both Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE models of these smartwatches. Notably, the original Pixel Watch is currently not receiving this update.

While users of the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 can enjoy the new features, the original model will eventually receive Wear OS 6. Google has committed to providing software updates for the original Pixel Watch until at least October 2025, suggesting that an update will arrive in due course.

What’s New in Wear OS 6

The update, designated BP3A.250905.014.W3, is based on Wear OS 6 and Android 16. Users can initiate the download by navigating to Settings, selecting System, and tapping on System updates multiple times. To expedite the process, it is recommended to disable Bluetooth in the Connectivity preferences to force a Wi-Fi connection.

One of the standout features of Wear OS 6 is the full Material 3 Expressive redesign. This redesign includes a refreshed lockscreen keypad, updated Quick Settings, and dynamic color schemes that adapt based on the chosen watch face. Additionally, users will find redesigned applications for alarms, stopwatches, and timers, enhancing the overall user experience.

However, it is important to note that new watch faces introduced with the Pixel Watch 4 will not be available for the Pixel Watch 2 and 3.

Additional Information and Security Updates

Google has made the OTA images for the October 2025 update available for those who require them. Alongside the smartwatch updates, Google is also rolling out the October 2025 Android update for its Pixel smartphones. As of now, the details of the accompanying security bulletin have not been disclosed, leaving users uncertain about the specific security enhancements included.

This update reflects Google’s ongoing commitment to improving its wearable technology and providing users with enhanced features and functionality. As the tech landscape continues to evolve, the updates signify an important step towards maintaining competitiveness in the smartwatch market.
