Nova Scotians Embrace New Online System for Driver’s Tests

Nova Scotians now have the ability to book and pay for their driver’s tests online, following the launch of a new digital system aimed at simplifying the process. Previously, residents were required to contact Access Nova Scotia by phone during regular hours for scheduling, cancellations, or any changes to their road tests. The new online portal centralizes all bookings, enabling users to manage their appointments at their convenience.
Streamlined Process for Driver’s Tests
The current online service specifically accommodates scheduling for Class 5 licences, with plans to expand to additional licence types in the future, according to a recent press release. Jill Balser, Minister of Cyber Security and Digital Solutions, highlighted the importance of this upgrade, stating, “Nova Scotians expect government services to be available online.” She emphasized that the stress of preparing for a driver’s test is alleviated by allowing individuals to book online, which ultimately makes the process faster and more user-friendly.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the provincial government to streamline services for its residents. Users can also receive reminders prior to their appointments, further enhancing the experience.
The new booking system was first piloted in Lower Sackville in June 2023 and has since expanded to other areas. To date, the site has attracted over 11,000 users, resulting in a total of 4,638 road tests booked through the platform.
Positive Feedback from Instructors
Local driving instructors have praised the new system for its convenience. Kaylee Marshall, owner and instructor at 360 Defensive Driving School, remarked, “The new booking service is so easy to use. Being able to view all available road tests in one place, any time of the day, makes scheduling for our student drivers a breeze.” She noted that this improvement is especially beneficial for individual drivers managing their own appointments.
The implementation of this online system marks a significant step towards modernizing government services in Nova Scotia, reflecting the growing expectation for accessible, digital solutions in public service delivery. As the government continues to enhance its offerings, residents can look forward to a more efficient experience in obtaining their driver’s licences.
