Nintendo’s Luigi’s Mansion 3 has emerged as the champion of The Great Canadian Game-Off, a campaign organized by the Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) in collaboration with MobileSyrup. This initiative invited fans to vote for their favorite Canadian-made video game, culminating in this decisive victory.

The competition spanned several weeks, beginning with a diverse array of games. In the first round, numerous titles were nominated, leading to a shortlist of nine finalists in the second round. Ultimately, Luigi’s Mansion 3, developed by Next Level Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, took the top spot. This action-adventure game, released in 2019, is a sequel to its predecessor and showcases the talent of Next Level Games, known for popular franchises such as the Mario Strikers series and Punch-Out!! for the Wii.

The finalists were a testament to the richness of the Canadian gaming industry, which includes well-known titles such as:
Age of Empires IV (co-developed by Relic Entertainment in Vancouver, B.C.)
Assassin’s Creed 2 (Ubisoft Montreal, Quebec) [Second place]
Cuphead (Studio MDHR in Oakville, Ontario)
Dead by Daylight (Behaviour Interactive in Montreal, Quebec)
Far Cry 3 (Ubisoft Montreal, Quebec)
Mass Effect 2 (BioWare in Edmonton, Alberta) [Third place]
Need for Speed Underground (EA Black Box in Burnaby, B.C.)
Night in the Woods (co-developed by Infinite Fall, with ties to Winnipeg, Manitoba)

As part of the campaign, participants who voted were entered into a draw for gaming subscription gift cards, sponsored by ESAC. The grand prize, valued at $600, was awarded to Logan McCaskill from Toronto, Ontario, marking a highlight of the event.

The Great Canadian Game-Off is part of ESAC’s broader celebration of its 20th anniversary, reflecting on the evolution and achievements of the Canadian gaming industry. For additional insights, including interesting facts about this vibrant sector, details are available on the ESAC website.

MobileSyrup continues to cover the Canadian gaming landscape, having engaged in extensive discussions with over 20 industry figures in a significant feature earlier this summer. This ongoing dialogue emphasizes the importance and potential of Canada’s gaming sector, which, despite its achievements, often remains underappreciated on the global stage.
