KFI Studios Launches Innovative Silva Wood Collection Featuring Steam-Bent Beech
KFI Studios has unveiled the Silva Collection, its first entirely wooden furniture line crafted from steam-bent beech wood. This innovative collection highlights the natural beauty of the material while promoting a modern yet timeless design aesthetic. Designed in collaboration with Union Design, the Silva Collection distinguishes itself by focusing on simplicity and the organic character of wood, setting a new standard in contemporary furniture.
Emphasizing Natural Aesthetics
The Silva Collection includes a range of products such as guest chairs, lounge chairs, stools, and tables available in various heights, catering to diverse environments. According to Chris Smith, CEO of KFI Studios, “It’s our first full wood collection, and something we’ve wanted to do for a long time. It’s got that natural warmth and character that makes spaces feel instantly inviting.” The collection’s standout feature is its steam-bent rear leg, which creates a seamless line from floor to backrest, enhancing the furniture’s sculptural quality.
Every aspect of the Silva Collection has been thoughtfully designed to showcase beech wood’s unique grain and texture. Jeff Theesfeld, founder of Union Design, noted, “Every curve, edge, and contour was carefully considered to highlight the material, create comfort, and offer a sense of simplicity.” The gentle curves and rounded edges ensure tactile comfort while maintaining a clean, organic aesthetic.
Functional Design Meets Versatility
The solid wood construction throughout the collection is paired with practical engineering that enhances usability without sacrificing beauty. Guest chairs can be stacked three high, making them ideal for flexible seating arrangements in venues. Stools are equipped with chromed steel footrests that provide durability without compromising the visual lightness of the design. Additionally, table tops come in two options: wood with soft edge profiles or laminate with knife-edge profiles, catering to settings requiring more robust surfaces.
The finish palette of the Silva Collection extends beyond conventional wood tones. Designers can choose from seven stain options, including Natural, Timber, Coffee, and Black, as well as contemporary hues like Navy, Evergreen, and Clay. These finishes enhance rather than obscure the wood grain, allowing the material’s natural texture to shine through, while adding depth and vibrancy to the pieces.
Customers can also select chairs with or without upholstered seats, with a wide array of graded-in textiles or COM options available, enabling designers to tailor comfort and aesthetics to their specific project needs.
As the trend towards biophilic design continues to grow, the Silva Collection aligns perfectly with this movement. Biophilic design emphasizes the connection between interior spaces and natural elements, an approach increasingly valued as research reveals the positive impact of natural materials on well-being. Silva’s all-wood construction, combined with finishes that highlight the wood grain, brings a sense of warmth and grounding to environments that benefit from nature-inspired aesthetics.
Ultimately, the Silva Collection represents a significant shift in furniture design towards enduring quality and authenticity. It prioritizes the natural character of materials over fleeting trends, offering forms that respect traditional craftsmanship while meeting modern spatial requirements. KFI Studios’ innovative approach positions the Silva Collection as a leading choice for designers seeking to create inviting and meaningful spaces.
