Google Launches 2K Nest Cameras with Advanced Features and Colors
Google has officially unveiled three new models of its Nest cameras, all equipped with enhanced features and vibrant color options. The announcement includes the Nest Cam Indoor 2K, priced at $99, the Nest Cam Outdoor 2K at $149, and the Nest Doorbell 2K Wired, which retails for $179. These products will be available in Spring 2024 and were designed to leverage the capabilities of the new Gemini technology.
Each of the new Nest cameras boasts a 2K video resolution, improving image quality significantly over previous models. Additionally, all existing Nest cameras released since 2015 will receive support for Gemini via the upcoming Google Home Premium plan. This marks a substantial upgrade in functionality, allowing users to experience enhanced video clarity and smart home integration.
Enhanced Design and Features
The latest models retain the familiar design of their predecessors while introducing bold new colors, including a striking Berry red and a unique Hazel shade. These color options align with the aesthetic of the new Google Home Speaker, set to launch alongside the cameras in Spring 2024.
In terms of performance, the new Nest cameras feature 2K HDR video capabilities, along with a taller and wider field of view. This improvement is made possible by a new sensor and a wider aperture lens, enabling full-color video even in low-light conditions. In fact, these cameras have received high ratings from DXOMark, ranking #1 in their respective categories for video quality.
The cameras also come with expanded storage options for video clips. Users can now store six hours of 10-second-long motion-activated clips for free, doubling the previous limit. For additional storage and features, a subscription to the Google Home Premium plan will be required at a cost of $10 per month.
Smart Features and Functionality
A standout feature of the new Nest cameras is their advanced ability to interpret and describe events occurring in and around the home. Rather than simply notifying users of a detected presence, the cameras can provide detailed descriptions, such as “dog jumps out of playpen.” This enhancement offers users greater insight into their home environment, making the system more intuitive and user-friendly.
As Google continues to innovate in the smart home sector, these new Nest products represent a significant step forward in both technology and design. With their release, customers can look forward to improved monitoring capabilities and stylish options for their home security needs.
