Battlefield 2042 Players Express Outrage Over New Tier Skip Feature

Players of the popular video game Battlefield 2042 have voiced their frustration following the introduction of a new purchasable tier skip feature in the game’s ‘Road to Battlefield 6’ battle pass. This update, which allows players to bypass certain progression hurdles, has sparked a backlash from those who prefer to unlock rewards through traditional gameplay.
Since the conclusion of the Battlefield 6 beta weekends, many players have turned to Battlefield 2042 to fill the void. Although the game has faced criticism since its launch, it remains the latest installment in the franchise, offering frequent updates and new content. To attract returning players, developer DICE created the battle pass, which includes various cosmetic items that will transfer to the upcoming Battlefield 6 upon its release.
In an effort to assist players in completing the battle pass before the launch of Battlefield 6, DICE implemented additional double XP weekends. Despite these efforts, many players felt overwhelmed by the challenge of unlocking all desired cosmetics. The latest patch, released on September 9, 2025, introduced a tier skip option alongside fixes for tracking issues related to weekly missions involving the M1 Garand weapon.
While tier skips provide a shortcut for players eager to access coveted items, the reaction has been mixed. Some players view this feature as a betrayal of those who have dedicated time and effort to earn rewards through gameplay. One player expressed their sentiments, stating, “What a slap in the face for us that have grinded it.” This sentiment reflects a broader concern among players who feel that monetizing progression undermines the spirit of the game.
Another player, RecentMatter3790, highlighted the disappointment felt by those who had invested time and money into the game before the introduction of tier skips. They noted, “Me, being an idiot, had bought a skin for Zain that had cost 1,000 battlefield coins,” suggesting that the change came too late for many dedicated players.
Despite the uproar, some within the community are encouraging a more balanced perspective. One player advised, “Don’t burn yourself out over a cosmetic pass. Although some of those BF6 skins look great, they are not going to be the only skins coming to the game.” This reflects a consensus among some players that while cosmetics are appealing, they are not the sole focus of gameplay enjoyment.
As the gaming community continues to navigate these changes, it remains to be seen how DICE will respond to player feedback in future updates. The ‘Road to Battlefield 6’ battle pass opens up new opportunities for players, but the debate over balance and fairness in gaming progression is likely to persist.
