Alan Hamel, the husband of the late actress and author Suzanne Somers, has announced an innovative project to preserve her legacy through artificial intelligence. Following Somers’ passing in 2023 at the age of 76 due to breast cancer, Hamel revealed that he has been developing an AI version of her, referred to as the Suzanne AI Twin.

In an interview with People magazine, Hamel shared his motivation behind the project, stating, “Suzanne was greatly loved, not only by her family, but by millions of people.” He emphasized that the AI twin is intended to keep her memory alive and provide valuable health information to her fans. According to Hamel, the idea stemmed from discussions they had in the 1980s after being inspired by computer scientist Ray Kurzweil.

Hamel noted that Kurzweil, who has been described by Bill Gates as “the smartest man on the planet,” became a close friend of theirs and shared insights about the future of technology. “We knew it was coming,” he said. “It took decades to happen, but he knew it was going to happen, and he shared that information with us.” This foundational friendship and vision led to Somers’ own enthusiasm for the project, as Hamel recalled her saying, “Let’s do it.”

He elaborated on the AI’s capabilities, explaining that it was trained using material from Somers’ extensive body of work, including her 27 books and numerous interviews. This comprehensive training allows the AI to respond to a wide range of questions, offering insights similar to those Somers might have provided. “When you look at the finished one next to the real Suzanne, you can’t tell the difference,” Hamel added.

Initially concerned about how their family would react to the project, Hamel has since received their support. He described conversations with family members who expressed enthusiasm for the tribute it represents. “They said, ‘We’re going to get to the point where it’s not going to seem weird, and it’ll just be another way to communicate with people we cared about,’” he stated.

As Hamel continues to develop the Suzanne AI Twin, he hopes it will serve as a lasting tribute to Somers and provide comfort to her fans. The project reflects a blend of technological innovation and personal remembrance, marking a unique intersection of grief and creativity in the digital age.
