Edmonton Startup Week 2025 Highlights 10 Innovative Companies

Edmonton Startup Week 2025 has launched with a spotlight on ten innovative companies that are redefining the city’s entrepreneurial landscape. The event, which runs from October 6 to 10, 2025, carries the theme “Step in, Step out, and Step forward,” signaling a shift in focus toward sectors such as artificial intelligence, health technology, cleantech, and advanced manufacturing. This year’s edition reflects the growing vibrancy of Edmonton’s innovation ecosystem, which generated $1 billion in ecosystem value between mid-2022 and the end of 2024, according to 2025 Startup Genome data.
As part of the opening activities, the Launch Party Showcase on October 6 will introduce ten startups that exemplify how local innovation is tackling pressing challenges. The selection committee for this year includes notable figures such as Shaheel Hooda, general partner at Sprout Fund, Tiffany Linke-Boyko, principal at Flying Fish Ventures, and Danielle Brewin Graham, general partner at Phoenix Fire and co-founder of The Firehood.
Meet the Ten Startups to Watch
The ten companies featured this year represent a diverse array of industries, each addressing unique challenges with innovative solutions.
CARM&A Health is at the forefront of addressing healthcare burdens. Founded by physicians Marjan Abbasi and Sheny Khera, the company has developed Carmi, an AI-powered virtual assistant designed to enhance collaborative care. By automating administrative tasks and improving patient engagement, Carmi aims to alleviate the cognitive overload that many primary care providers face.
Another noteworthy participant is Deeleeo, a logistics platform founded by Jackson Payne. The service offers same-day and scheduled delivery with live tracking, catering specifically to small businesses that struggle to compete with larger e-commerce platforms. This innovative solution promises to enhance delivery efficiency while supporting local enterprises.
FluidInsight, founded by Patrick Emokpae, employs machine learning and proprietary sensor chemistry to deliver real-time insights across various industries. This technology allows for immediate data collection, helping sectors such as energy and manufacturing to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
As wildfires increasingly threaten communities across Canada, Firesafe AI offers timely solutions. Founded by Nafaa Haddou and Ismail Haddou, the company specializes in AI-driven wildfire detection and risk assessment, utilizing a network of surveillance sensors and drones for rapid response.
In the realm of healthcare, PulseMedica presents a system for diagnosing and treating vitreoretinal diseases. The founders, Nir Katchinskiy and Eric Martin, have integrated high-resolution imaging and machine learning to improve early detection and treatment options, addressing a growing health concern as the population ages.
In the energy sector, Recon Intelligence, co-founded by Jonathan Prill and others, provides downhole drilling data analysis. This technology optimizes performance and offers preventative maintenance solutions, crucial for reducing costs and environmental impacts in Alberta’s energy industry.
The financial technology space is represented by ReFi.Trading, which enables traders and fund managers to launch AI-powered trading agents. Their innovative platform addresses trust and security challenges in decentralized finance, ensuring compliance and transparency through cryptographic verification.
Additionally, RL Core, founded by Martha White and her team, utilizes reinforcement learning to optimize industrial operations. This adaptive technology allows for real-time monitoring and adjustments, enhancing efficiency in complex processes while supporting operators in higher-priority tasks.
Lastly, SketchDeck.ai, established by Daniel Kamau, offers AI-powered software for the structural steel industry, automating material counting directly from blueprints. This innovation promises to streamline construction processes and reduce errors.
Connecting the Community
Edmonton Startup Week, produced by Edmonton Unlimited, has become an essential event in the city’s innovation calendar. The five-day event brings together founders, investors, community leaders, and policymakers for networking, workshops, and mentorship opportunities. This year marks the sixteenth edition of the Launch Party, a signature showcase that highlights the talent and creativity within Edmonton’s tech community.
