Constellation has appointed Chris Mudrick as the company’s new chief nuclear officer, effective September 29, 2025. This announcement was made in a press release dated September 4, 2023. Mudrick takes over from Dave Rhoades, who is set to retire at the end of the year after leading the nuclear division since 2021.

In his statement, Joe Dominguez, president and CEO of Constellation, praised Rhoades, stating, “Dave Rhoades has left an indelible mark on our company and our industry, and his legacy of safety, reliability and error-free operations is unmatched.” He expressed confidence in Mudrick’s abilities, noting his extensive technical and leadership experience.

Under Rhoades’ leadership, Constellation has maintained an impressive operational performance, achieving an industry-leading capacity factor of over 94% over the past decade. “Dave’s contributions to our nuclear fleet are immeasurable,” said Bryan Hanson, Constellation’s chief generation officer. He highlighted that Rhoades’ guidance allowed the company to consistently lead in key indicators of reliability, such as annual capacity factors and outage durations.

Rhoades has spearheaded numerous operational innovations during his tenure. His initiatives focused on optimizing equipment at Constellation’s clean energy centers and reducing the duration of refueling outages. Historically, these outages extended beyond a month, but Rhoades’ emphasis on efficient planning has shortened the average duration to less than three weeks.

As Mudrick steps into this role, he brings a wealth of experience. He previously served as the chief nuclear officer at Bruce Power in Canada for four years before returning to Constellation last year. Since his return, Mudrick has successfully overseen the restart of the Crane Clean Energy Center and has supported various growth initiatives, particularly in data management.

Mudrick’s career spans over three decades at Constellation, where he has held numerous leadership positions. As the company transitions into a new chapter, his extensive background in both domestic and international nuclear operations positions him well to continue the legacy of excellence set by Rhoades.

With the appointment of Chris Mudrick, Constellation aims to uphold its commitment to providing clean energy while navigating the evolving landscape of the nuclear industry. The focus will remain on delivering reliable power to American homes and businesses, further solidifying Constellation’s role as a leader in the nuclear sector.
