The annual Rossland Winter Carnival attracted large crowds this year, showcasing a vibrant array of activities and community spirit. Held in February 2024, the festivities featured a variety of outdoor events, including a parade, the Sonny Samuelson Bobsled Race, and the popular Rail Jam. The carnival’s success was heavily reliant on the snowfall in the region, enabling the creation of attractions such as the Olaus Ice Palace and intricate snow sculptures.

Many contributors were vital to the success of the carnival, with the City of Rossland playing a significant role. A statement on the carnival’s social media page expressed gratitude towards the local government for its support. “It truly takes a village,” the post stated. The message acknowledged the efforts of the Carnival Society and key individuals like Larry Doell, Daniel D’Amour, Lisa Kwiatkowski, Kristel Tymchen, Cydney Streadwick, and Michele Skuce for their year-round dedication to organizing the event.

The weekend was marked by bustling streets filled with attendees enjoying the festivities. Hundreds gathered for the Variety Show and the carnival parade, creating a lively atmosphere. The local Rossland Sr. Warriors hockey game also saw a packed audience at the Rossland Arena, further demonstrating the community’s enthusiasm.

In addition to sports and parades, the Blizzard Music Festival featured a diverse line-up across five venues, providing entertainment for a wide range of musical tastes. The organizers expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support received from volunteers, sponsors, community partners, and local businesses.

“Our continued success is due to the collaboration of volunteers, event organizers, sponsors, community partners, suppliers, music acts, local businesses, neighbors, and revelers—your continued support means the world!” the carnival organizers stated.

As the Rossland Winter Carnival concluded, it left a lasting impression on attendees and highlighted the importance of community involvement in making such events possible. The carnival not only celebrated winter but also fostered connections among residents and visitors alike, ensuring its place as a cherished tradition in the region.
