The 54th annual dog show hosted by the Prince Albert Kennel Club is currently underway at the Prince Albert Exhibition Grounds, drawing in a diverse lineup of participants and dog enthusiasts. As the event progresses, blue ribbons have already been awarded in various categories, showcasing the impressive talents of the competing dogs.

The top prize for the working group was awarded to Kenny, a three-year-old Great Dane from Kiltic’s Great Danes in Leduc. Her owner, Sherry Young, expressed pride in her dog’s achievements, noting that Kenny is an American champion and on the verge of becoming a gold Canadian champion. “She’s done a lot of stuff in her career. Just recently she won the regional specialty in Alberta. She’s a fun dog,” Young remarked.

The judging panel, led by Dann Wilson, praised Kenny’s performance, highlighting her perfect outline and impressive movement. “They’re working dogs, so they have to look like they should be able to do the job they were intended to do,” Wilson explained. “There was a lot of quality in the group today. The Great Dane just struck me as, you know, it was a perfect outline, profile, moved well. Lovely comportment, she was just lovely.”

The event welcomes the public to attend and interact with the exhibitors. Liana Maloney from the Prince Albert Kennel & Obedience Club encourages attendees to engage with caution. “Just always ask before you pet the dog at the show, because some of them have had hours of grooming to get ready for their two minutes in the ring,” she advised.

With 150 participants registered this year, the show features dogs of various breeds and sizes, all vying for the coveted titles and ribbons. As the competition continues, spectators can expect to see impressive displays of skill and training, with hopes of achieving the prestigious title of Best in Show.

As this beloved annual event unfolds, it not only highlights the remarkable talents of the dogs but also fosters a sense of community among dog lovers, making it a cherished occasion for both participants and visitors alike.
