A significant donation from the Ismail family has propelled the fundraising efforts for the Aquatic Changeroom Entrance at the new Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre in Prince Albert. The family presented a cheque for $50,000 as part of the Play It Forward campaign, a local initiative aimed at enhancing community facilities.

Ward 7 Councillor Dawn Kilmer emphasized the importance of this contribution, stating that it reflects the community spirit that has shaped Prince Albert over the years. “The leisure centre is an amazing addition to our city, and the donations from families like the Ismail family are pivotal in helping us meet our fundraising goal,” Kilmer noted. She underscored that this facility will not only serve current residents but also future generations.

The newly established leisure centre will offer a range of amenities, including an aquatic space that has long been lacking in the community. Kilmer highlighted that the Play It Forward campaign invites residents to invest in a facility that is expected to serve the community for at least the next 50 years. “Prince Albert has not had the luxury of owning an indoor pool until now,” she remarked.

Kilmer added that the Ismail family’s donation is not just about the entrance itself, but the broader impact of their commitment to the city’s future. “They are investing in our future. They know we are growing and want to be part of it,” she said. She also encouraged other local residents and businesses to contribute, mentioning the $1,000 Save a Seat option, which allows individuals and families to participate in the campaign.

Sam Ismail, owner of the Twilight Motel, expressed his family’s dedication to Prince Albert, noting that they have been part of the community since 1979. “For more than 45 years, we have a lot of commitment to the city,” Ismail stated. He described the donation as a natural extension of their long-standing ties to the area and a milestone opportunity to support a facility that will benefit the entire region.

“The whole facility is world-class. Prince Albert has not seen anything like this built in decades, and it is very much needed,” Ismail added. He believes that giving back is a vital responsibility for local families and businesses, stating, “We are a local family and local business, so we have to support our local community.”

Ismail hopes that their donation will inspire others to join the campaign. “Take pride in your city. Take pride in the efforts being made to improve our city and support its initiatives,” he urged.

Kilmer reiterated that contributions like the Ismail family’s reflect the character of Prince Albert and the community’s commitment to growth. “Every time I meet people who I have known most of their lives contributing in such meaningful ways, it makes my heart sing,” she said. “That is who Prince Albert is. We look after each other, and we are growing.”

With community support and ongoing fundraising efforts, the Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre is set to become a vital resource for residents in Prince Albert and beyond.
