The Municipalité régionale de comté (MRC) d’Argenteuil announced significant population growth across its municipalities for the year 2025. This announcement, made on January 21, 2025, was based on population data published in La Gazette officielle du Québec in late December 2025.

Brownsburg-Chatham led the growth by adding 345 permanent residents, bringing its total population to 8,491, a rise of 4.23 percent from 8,146 in 2024. Following closely was the city of Lachute, which saw an increase of 216 residents, boosting its population to 15,508 and reflecting a 1.41 percent growth from 15,292 in the previous year. These two municipalities accounted for 66.21 percent of the total population of the MRC, which rose by 844 individuals, marking a 2.24 percent annual increase to a total of 38,581 residents.

In addition to Brownsburg-Chatham and Lachute, other municipalities within the MRC also reported population increases. Gore Township welcomed 79 new residents, bringing its population to 2,765. Mille-Isles added 55 residents, raising its population to 1,893.

Saint-André-d’Argenteuil recorded an increase of 52 individuals, elevating its population to 3,309. The Village of Grenville experienced growth as well, adding 30 residents for a total of 1,896. Grenville-sur-la-Rouge saw a modest increase of 10 residents, bringing its population to 3,050.

The Township of Harrington added 25 permanent residents, increasing its total to 979, while the Township of Wentworth recorded a growth of 22 residents, raising its population to 689.

Implications of Population Growth

The steady population growth across all nine municipalities highlights an ongoing trend of development and expansion within the MRC d’Argenteuil. This upward trajectory in population figures indicates a strong regional appeal, reflecting the area’s potential for economic and social development.

The data suggests that the MRC d’Argenteuil is becoming increasingly attractive to new residents, underscoring the importance of strategic planning and resource allocation to support this growth. As municipalities adapt to their expanding populations, they will need to consider infrastructure, housing, and community services to ensure sustainable development.

The positive demographic trends of 2025 indicate a promising future for the region, as it continues to attract new residents and foster a vibrant community.
