Richmond’s Terry Fox Run Raises Over $29K for Cancer Research
The annual Terry Fox Run held in Richmond on September 14, 2023, successfully raised over $29,000 to support cancer research. More than 200 participants and volunteers braved the rain at Garry Point Park, demonstrating their commitment to honoring the legacy of Terry Fox and contributing to the fight against cancer.
Co-organizers Howard and Marla Jampolsky expressed their gratitude for the community’s participation. They stated in an email to the Richmond News that the event is a “testament to the dedication and determination of our community.” They added, “It is heartening to see so many people come together for a common cause — a commitment to finding a cure for cancer.”
The funds raised during the Terry Fox Run contribute to the ongoing efforts of the Terry Fox Foundation, which has amassed over $950 million across Canada to fund groundbreaking cancer research. This research is facilitated by the Terry Fox Research Institute, which recently launched the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network. This innovative network connects 35 of the nation’s leading cancer hospitals, research universities, and health authorities, enabling patients to receive timely and appropriate cancer treatments.
The Terry Fox Run has become a significant annual event, not only raising funds but also fostering community spirit and awareness about cancer research and treatment options. The commitment shown by participants and volunteers reflects a deep-rooted desire to combat cancer and support those affected by it.
As the community looks forward to future events, the success of this year’s run serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when individuals unite for a noble cause. The legacy of Terry Fox continues to inspire many, creating a lasting impact on the fight against cancer in Canada and beyond.
