Richards Landing Emergency Department to Close for Two Days

The Emergency Department at the Matthews Site in Richards Landing will close for two days next week due to a shortage of physicians, according to the North Shore Health Network (NSHN). The closure is scheduled for March 5 and March 6, 2024, impacting local residents’ access to emergency medical care.
In its announcement, NSHN stated that it is actively exploring all options to ensure safe access to healthcare and to prevent further closures. Efforts to secure physician coverage are ongoing, and the network has committed to reversing the closure should additional medical staff become available. Community members will be updated promptly if a change occurs.
During this temporary closure, ambulances will be redirected to the nearest available emergency departments. Residents requiring immediate medical assistance are urged to call 9-1-1. For non-emergency health advice, the public can contact Health811 by dialing 8-1-1 or using the toll-free TTY line at 1-866-797-007. Additionally, a live chat option is available through the Ontario government’s health website at Health Connect Ontario.
NSHN expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding during this challenging time. The organization is working collaboratively with partners to secure sustainable healthcare resources to meet the needs of local residents.
For further updates and detailed information, community members can visit the NSHN website at www.nshn.care or follow them on Facebook.
