Richmond Library Celebrates Summer Reading Success with 4,000 Young Readers

More than 4,000 children in Richmond participated in the library’s summer reading program, culminating in a celebration on September 7, 2023. The event will not only honor the young readers but also offer them the opportunity to collect their medals for participating in the B.C. Summer Reading Club. Participants can receive their medals at the event or visit the library after September 3.
The free celebration will take place at the Brighouse branch of the Richmond Public Library from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Attendees can engage in hands-on literacy activities and games designed to promote reading enjoyment. Local dignitaries and members of the library board will also be in attendance to recognize the achievements of the young readers.
Kate Adams, the head of Children & Family Services at the Richmond Public Library, emphasized the importance of the program. “The B.C. Summer Reading Club encourages kids to read for fun, which helps them build confidence in their reading abilities and develop a more positive attitude toward reading,” she said. Adams also noted that the program fosters engagement with library staff throughout the summer, enhancing the overall experience for participants.
The celebration is designed as a drop-in event, meaning no prior registration is required for families interested in attending. This provides an excellent opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the dedication of young readers across Richmond.
