Newman High School Honors Emmaline Burger as December Student of the Month
Emmaline Burger, a senior at Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling, has been named the student of the month for December 2023. This recognition highlights her academic achievements and significant contributions to the school community. Emmaline is the daughter of Jeff and Joanna Burger and has two siblings, Ruby and Nathaniel.
In an interview, she emphasized her enthusiasm for the CEO Class, led by Le Hartman. “We are constantly challenged to think outside the box and from the perspective of an entrepreneur,” she shared. The class stands out for its real-world, hands-on approach that includes learning directly from local business leaders. This practical experience has made the course both engaging and impactful for her education.
Looking ahead, Emmaline plans to attend a four-year university to major in biomedical engineering. After completing her studies, she aims to work as a medical or pharmaceutical sales representative in the Chicagoland area. Her ambitions reflect a commitment to merging her academic interests with a career that positively impacts the healthcare industry.
Emmaline is also active beyond her academic pursuits. She participates in the Journalism course at Newman, where she enjoys expressing her creativity while honing skills in layout design and visual communication. Additionally, she works at Culver’s in Dixon, appreciating the positive work environment and the joys of being surrounded by custard and cheese curds.
Reflecting on her school experience, Emmaline shared a memorable moment as the student director of the new St. John Henry Newman House System. “It has been rewarding to see how meaningful this system has been in and out of our school community,” she noted. Whether it’s cheering for house point competitions or visiting local nursing homes, she finds fulfillment in helping to build relationships among different grade levels.
As for her aspirations, Emmaline hopes to give back to her community in the future. She also dreams of adopting two golden retrievers, whom she plans to name Zeus and Goose. Her vision for the future reflects a blend of personal and professional goals, showcasing her desire to make a positive impact on those around her.
Emmaline Burger’s recognition as student of the month is not just a celebration of her achievements but also an inspiration for her peers, exemplifying how dedication and community involvement can shape a successful future.
