This weekend, Richmond will host a variety of engaging events, from a hands-on robotics workshop for children to a community appreciation day celebrating local heritage. Robotics Workshop for Kids

On September 6, 2023, a free in-person robotics workshop for children will be held at the Holiday Inn Vancouver Airport, located at 10720 Cambie Rd.. Organized by Moonpreneur, this event invites children aged 7 to 14 to explore robotics and coding through interactive exercises. Parents are encouraged to bring a laptop for their children’s group sessions, which will last approximately one hour and 15 minutes.

The schedule is organized by age group:
– 11:00 AM – Ages 7–8
– 1:00 PM – Ages 9–10
– 3:00 PM – Ages 11–12
– 4:45 PM – Ages 13–14

Fundraising Summer Fair

On September 7, 2023, the Josiah Kicks Academy will host a fundraising summer fair at 11551 Dyke Rd. to support local taekwondo athletes representing British Columbia at the ITF Taekwondo World Championships. This lively event will run from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM and will feature a variety of activities, including martial arts demonstrations, mini-games, and food vendors.

Fairgoers can enjoy local business booths, kids’ activity stations, and a community raffle. The day will culminate in an outdoor movie night. Tickets are available for purchase online, priced at $18 for adults and $14 for children through Eventbrite.

Richmond Farm Fest Returns

The Richmond Farm Fest, celebrating the city’s agricultural roots, returns after a six-year hiatus. Taking place on September 7, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Garden City Lands, located at 5040 Garden City Rd., the festival will feature a Farmers and Artisans Market showcasing locally grown produce and homemade goods.

Culinary demonstrations will be hosted by Pursuit Kitchen, with live cooking sessions scheduled at noon, 1:00 PM, and 2:00 PM. Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle, or use public transit to reach the event, which offers a free bike and e-scooter valet service on-site, along with free parking available at KPU and Richmond City Hall.

Community Appreciation Day in Steveston

The Steveston Community Society will host a Community Appreciation Day on September 7, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Steveston Community Centre and Library, located at 4111 Moncton St.. This event aims to celebrate the existing community centre and library before their scheduled closure in December.

Families can enjoy free face painting, storytime sessions, arts and crafts, and various entertainment options suitable for all ages. The day promises to be a vibrant celebration of community spirit and engagement.
