Elwood School District 203 Appoints Dr. Matt Swick as New Superintendent
The Elwood Community Consolidated School District 203 Board of Education has appointed Dr. Matt Swick as the new superintendent, effective following the retirement of Tim Page on June 30, 2026. The decision was made during the board’s meeting on December 9, 2023, marking a significant transition for the district as it prepares for a new leadership era.
Dr. Swick, currently serving as the assistant superintendent at Wilmington School District 209U, expressed his enthusiasm for the role in a statement. “I am truly humbled and honored by the opportunity to serve the students, families, and staff of Elwood as the next superintendent,” he said. His connection to the community runs deep, as his wife, Melissa, and her brothers attended school in Elwood, providing him with personal insights into the district’s values and culture.
Having spent considerable time in Elwood with his wife’s family, Dr. Swick has developed a strong respect for the community. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the two districts, noting their joint efforts in advocating for federal funding. “Both districts have worked closely together over the years in continually advocating for the vitally important federal Impact Aid funds,” he stated. These funds are allocated due to the federal government’s ownership of nearby landmarks, including the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Dr. Swick’s extensive experience and commitment to the educational needs of the community position him well to lead Elwood School District 203 into a new chapter. He aims to build upon the existing relationships with neighboring districts and enhance programs that benefit the students.
As the Elwood Board of Education looks forward to this new leadership, the focus remains on fostering an environment that prioritizes student achievement and community engagement. Dr. Swick’s appointment is anticipated to bring fresh perspectives and continued advocacy for educational resources, ensuring the district’s growth and success in the coming years.
