The opening session of the Wild Winter Wednesday (WWW) program on December 3, 2023, at the Windmill Cultural Center in Fulton will feature a presentation by naturalist Hannah Pannell Edfors, who will discuss the rich history of Beaver Island. This change follows a medical emergency involving original speaker Dana Starkell, prompting the Volunteer Education Committee to seek an alternative.

Edfors, a native of Fulton and a member of Clinton County Conservation, brings a wealth of outdoor experience to the presentation. Her passion for nature has been shaped by time spent in the great outdoors and on local rivers, allowing her to develop a deep appreciation for environmental history.

Doors at the Windmill Cultural Center will open at 8:30 a.m., welcoming attendees with coffee, hot cider, and mill treats before the program kicks off at approximately 9:15 a.m. The event is designed to be inclusive, with full disability accessibility, and is free to the public.

In the event of inclement weather, if River Bend Schools are closed, delayed, or conducting remote learning, the WWW program will be canceled. This precaution ensures the safety of all participants and staff.

Edfors’ talk promises to be an enlightening journey into the past, offering insights that will resonate with both locals and visitors interested in the cultural significance of Beaver Island. Attendees can anticipate an engaging discussion that highlights the natural and historical importance of this unique location.
