Dwight Library Unveils Exciting Events for October

The Prairie Creek Public Library in Dwight has announced an engaging lineup of events for the end of September and throughout October. All events are free and open to the public, with no library card required for registration. However, due to limited space, registration is mandatory.
Upcoming Events
The calendar kicks off with the **Shelf Indulgence Book Discussion Group** on **September 23** at **10 a.m.** Adults are invited to participate in a discussion of “Made in China” by **Amelia Pang**. Following that, on **September 25** at **6 p.m.**, **Dale Maley**, president of the Livingston County Historical Society, will present on **Thomas Googerty**, the master blacksmith who created notable gates for local cemeteries.
On **September 29** at **6 p.m.**, **Chef Susan** will return to demonstrate rustic Italian cuisine, allowing attendees to sample her dishes. The first week of October features an **Adult/Teen Craft Night** on **October 2** at **6 p.m.**, where participants will create ghost paintings inspired by popular TikTok trends.
Another highlight includes a discussion on the cultural impact of *The Wizard of Oz* led by film historian **Dr. Annette Bochenek** on **October 3** at **6 p.m.** This multimedia presentation will delve into the film’s production and ongoing legacy.
Interactive Sessions and Workshops
The **Cook the Books Cookbook Club** will meet on **October 7** at **6 p.m.** Participants will choose a recipe from a selected cookbook, prepare it, and bring the dish to share with others, focusing on chili this month.
On **October 9**, **Karen Ferrerro**, a professor from Joliet Junior College, will lead a session on using AI to create documents, covering tools for crafting cover letters and resumes. The same evening, a **True Crime Discussion** will explore the case of **Pam Hupp**, who manipulated circumstances to convict her husband despite his alibi, later facing charges herself.
Family-friendly activities include **Sports with Dogs**, organized by **K9 Connect**, scheduled for **October 10** at **11 a.m.** This outdoor event welcomes children and their caregivers, with a contingency plan to move indoors in case of rain. Later that day at **1 p.m.**, teens can test their survival skills in a decision-making challenge titled **Can You Survive?**
On **October 13** at **10:30 a.m.**, the library will host a day off school celebration featuring spider web watercolor painting for children in grades kindergarten through fifth, alongside a pressed metal Renaissance sun project for teens.
