The Yukon Party has achieved a significant victory in the recent election, securing a majority by winning 14 of the 21 seats in the Yukon Legislative Assembly. Following this decisive outcome, Yukon Party Leader Currie Dixon communicated his confidence to Yukon Commissioner Adeline Webber, who subsequently invited him to form the next Yukon government. This announcement was made public through a Yukon Party press release on November 5, 2024.

Dixon expressed that the official invitation marks the beginning of the process to implement the changes that Yukoners have voted for. He has announced the formation of his transition team, which consists of seasoned public servants with substantial governmental experience. The team includes Jason Bilsky, the former chief executive officer of the Yukon Hospital Corporation; Katherine White, the former deputy minister of finance for Alberta; and Eric Schroff, the vice-president of the Yukon Party.

Jason Bilsky brings over a decade of leadership experience, having served as CEO of the Yukon Hospital Corporation since 2012 until his retirement in the fall of 2024. He is a chartered professional accountant, which adds a financial acumen to the transition team.

Katherine White has an extensive background in finance and economic policy. Appointed deputy minister of finance by former Yukon Party Premier Darrell Pasloski in 2015, White has also held positions as deputy minister of jobs and economy. Most recently, she served as the deputy minister for Alberta’s Treasury Board and Finance under Premier Danielle Smith of the United Conservative Party, where she also acted as the chief economist.

Completing the transition team, Eric Schroff has served as the assistant deputy minister of Community Services and Economic Development. The diverse expertise of this team aims to ensure a smooth transition as the Yukon Party prepares to take the reins of government.

Further details regarding the new government and its initiatives are expected to be released in the coming days as the Yukon Party prepares for the official swearing-in ceremony. As Yukoners look forward to the changes promised during the campaign, the focus will be on how this new leadership will address the pressing issues facing the territory.
