The Surrey Council has approved a two-year renewal for the Fleetwood Business Improvement Association (FBIA), extending its mandate from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2028. This decision was made during the council meeting on November 3 and reflects the ongoing commitment to support local businesses along Fraser Highway.

During the meeting, Councillor Harry Bains expressed his appreciation for the FBIA’s efforts. “I just want to say I think the Fleetwood BIA does an amazing job,” he stated. Bains highlighted the challenges faced by businesses in the area and commended the association for its steadfast support throughout these difficulties. “They’ve got a great management team there. I’m happy to support this,” he added.

Surrey currently hosts four Business Improvement Associations, including the Cloverdale BIA, Downtown Surrey BIA, and Newton BIA, alongside Fleetwood’s. The FBIA was initially established in 2016 and has since worked to enhance the local business environment.

The council’s decision follows an outreach effort conducted by the FBIA from July to September, which aimed to gather feedback from property owners and members. City manager Rob Costanzo reported to the council that the association received 58 completed surveys, revealing that 91.4 percent of respondents were in favor of the renewal. This strong support underscores the association’s positive impact on the community and its businesses.

The renewal of the FBIA’s mandate demonstrates a collective effort to foster a thriving business atmosphere in Fleetwood. The association’s initiatives are expected to continue promoting economic development and addressing the needs of local enterprises as they navigate ongoing challenges.
