Marcus Lewis Outlines Ambitious Agenda for 2026 Congressional Bid
Marcus Lewis, a retired individual and ordained apostolic Pentecostal minister, is running for the position of U.S. Representative for Illinois’ District 1. At the age of 67, Lewis aims to bring significant changes to Congress by championing policies that he believes will revitalize his district and align with his Republican values.
In a recent election questionnaire, Lewis laid out his key legislative priorities. He emphasized the need for revitalization of District 1 through new business investments, adherence to MAGA (Make America Great Again) and America First policies. He also called for the elimination of sanctuary states and cities, and the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants, asserting that these measures are essential to restoring order and security.
Addressing local issues, Lewis reiterated that his priorities revolve around economic development and immigration reform, echoing his previous statements. When it comes to federal funding, he advocates for infrastructure improvements, including roads, bridges, and broadband access, stressing the importance of addressing these needs promptly.
Lewis firmly believes that the concerns of his district take precedence over party priorities. He stated, “Priority of the district needs ALWAYS come first,” highlighting his commitment to representing the interests of his constituents.
In discussing the powers of Congress, Lewis expressed support for former President Donald Trump, rejecting the notion that Congress has relinquished its Article I powers during the Trump administration. He praised Trump for restoring America’s standing globally and dismissed calls for investigations into the current administration’s conduct.
Lewis also took a strong stance on immigration, asserting that the U.S. must seal its borders and enforce strict immigration policies. He aligned himself with Trump’s approach, declaring that illegal immigrants must be removed from the country promptly.
On healthcare affordability, Lewis criticized the Affordable Care Act, calling it unworkable and labeling it a “con job” on the American public. He called for a more effective program that would provide affordable healthcare without allowing pharmaceutical companies to exploit consumers.
The candidate’s views extend to public health policy, where he expressed skepticism about the credibility of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the Biden administration, suggesting a need for accountability among those involved in public health decisions during the pandemic.
When asked about potential regulations on artificial intelligence, Lewis raised concerns about its impact on employment, arguing that AI could displace workers and should be approached cautiously.
Additionally, Lewis committed to expanding work requirements for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients, advocating for a system that encourages employability and self-sufficiency.
In a unique claim, Lewis stated that he does not accept campaign donations, asserting, “Whoever funds you runs you.” Instead, he claims to be guided by his faith in God and his commitment to his constituents.
As Lewis prepares for the upcoming election, he remains focused on his agenda, calling for oversight of previous administrations and a return to policies that he believes will strengthen the country. He anticipates a challenging race in the lead-up to the 2026 Congressional elections but remains steadfast in his convictions.
