Search Intensifies for Missing Five-Year-Old Near B.C.-Alberta Border

The search for five-year-old Darius Macdougall continues as authorities enter the fourth day of efforts to locate him in a remote region of Alberta. Darius was last seen walking with his family on September 21, 2023, approximately four kilometres south of Crowsnest Pass, near the Island Lake Campground.
Darius was reported to be with six family members when he went missing on that Sunday. According to Alberta Cpl. Gina Slaney, the family members are all young, which raises concerns about the situation. The search has become increasingly urgent as time passes without any signs of the boy.
On September 24, Adam Kennedy, the provincial training manager for Search and Rescue Alberta, stated that the current search radius is three kilometres. Search teams are utilizing various resources, including drones and canine units, to cover ground in the challenging terrain of the area. The remote location, characterized by dense forest and rugged landscape, presents significant challenges for search operations.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in locating Darius. The community has rallied around the family, offering support and resources as the search continues. Local volunteers have also joined the efforts, demonstrating the strong community spirit in the region.
As the search progresses into its fourth day, officials remain hopeful but acknowledge the difficulties posed by the environment. The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
For now, the focus remains on finding Darius and ensuring his safe return to his family. The determination of search teams and the support from the community highlight the collective effort to bring the young boy home.
