Masangsoft has confirmed that the popular action game, GunZ: The Duel, will host its second global playtest on December 11 to 14, 2023. This event will take place on the Steam platform and aims to build on the insights gained from the earlier closed test. The studio has incorporated player feedback gathered from various sources, including Medal.tv clips, discussions on Discord, and reports submitted within the game.

The upcoming playtest promises to introduce a range of enhancements. A comprehensive changelog details significant technical upgrades, including a higher tick rate and an adjustable field-of-view slider. Players can expect anti-lead settings that vary from 0 to 100, as well as improved network performance to facilitate smoother gameplay. In terms of combat, the developers have refreshed multi-kill indicators and audio cues, implemented optional enemy outlines, and refined the colors of health and power bars. Notably, players will no longer experience camera lock during wall runs, allowing for a more fluid play style.

Streamlined Player Experience and Improvements

In addition to technical enhancements, the development team is focusing on streamlining the overall player experience. Matches will now commence even if some participants do not indicate readiness, addressing a common frustration among players. The studio has also enhanced AFK detection and improved the clarity of the chat and shop interfaces. Long-standing issues, such as health and action point display errors and scoreboard inconsistencies, have been resolved. Smaller enhancements include the ability to center the combat user interface, a brief mouse-wheel delay for better control, and a relocated ring equipment interface for easier access.

According to PD Max, the Game Director, this playtest phase represents months of refinement shaped by player insights. The goal is to update GunZ’s signature fast-paced and acrobatic style while retaining the core elements that define the game.

Participants interested in joining the playtest can access it directly through the game’s Steam store page once registration begins. Approval for participation will be managed through Steam’s access system, with selected newsletter subscribers receiving keys via email. The playtest will be live from December 11 at 18:00 to December 14 at 18:00 (PST).

This playtest offers players an opportunity to engage with the game’s evolving mechanics while contributing to its development. With the improvements announced, GunZ: The Duel aims to enhance the gaming experience for both new and returning players.
