Experience TIFF 2023: Dine, Party, and Relax Like a Star
Every September, Toronto becomes a vibrant hub for film enthusiasts as it hosts the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This year marks a significant milestone with the festival celebrating its 50th edition. Renowned celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Channing Tatum, and Kirsten Dunst are expected to attend, drawing fans and media attention to the city. For those wanting to immerse themselves in the festival atmosphere, a range of dining, nightlife, and pampering options await.
Where Stars Stay and Dine
The Four Seasons Hotel Toronto is a top choice for celebrities during TIFF, known for its luxurious accommodations and privacy. General Manager Patrick Pollak emphasized the hotel’s long-standing relationship with the festival. “We are proud to once again be an official hospitality partner to mark the 50th edition milestone,” he stated. This year, the hotel features a collaboration with the TIFF Film Reference Library, showcasing significant historical photos from the festival’s past.
Other popular venues include the Bisha Hotel, home to the Deadline Portrait Studio, and the Royal York’s Clockwork Bar, frequented by industry insiders. For those who enjoy fine dining, options like Nobu and DaNico are perfect for fueling up before events. Akira Back, another upscale restaurant located at Bisha, has attracted stars like Ryan Reynolds and Zendaya.
For a more casual experience, Kensington Market offers guided tours that explore local favorites and highlight celebrity sightings during TIFF. “It’s a great way to discover the best spots locals love,” said Christian Wolters, president of Canada at Intrepid Travel.
Nightlife and Film Highlights
After the screenings, Toronto’s nightlife comes alive with various options for late-night entertainment. This year, the Drake Hotel hosts the TIFF After Dark, open until 04:00 with themed cocktails and live DJs. The Campari Cinema Center transforms into an exclusive after-party venue, attracting festival-goers looking to unwind.
Festival Street offers an accessible way for the public to partake in the festival buzz. “The energy on Festival Street is electric, where you can spot a celebrity or two,” Wolters noted. Intrepid Travel has established a Travel Box Office pop-up in this vibrant area, providing interactive experiences for attendees.
Films remain at the heart of TIFF, with anticipated titles including Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao, and Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein. The anniversary programming features classic films like Jaws and a curated series titled The TIFF Story in 50 Films. The Midnight Madness program, sponsored by Intrepid, showcases daring films in a lively midnight screening atmosphere.
Amid the excitement, pampering remains vital. The Spa at Four Seasons Toronto, the only Forbes Five-Star spa in the city, offers treatments such as the Red-Carpet Glam Facial, ensuring guests feel rejuvenated throughout the festival.
Toronto’s luxury boutiques in Yorkville present opportunities for shopping, while vintage finds can be discovered in Kensington Market and the Ossington Strip.
Wolters captured the essence of TIFF, stating, “It’s one of those rare festivals where you don’t even need a ticket to feel like you’re a part of it.” With careful planning and an adventurous spirit, anyone can enjoy the festival’s offerings and feel connected to the cinematic world, even without access to the red carpet.
