Calgary Hitmen Defeat Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-2 in WHL Action

In a decisive match on Sunday, the Calgary Hitmen overcame the Lethbridge Hurricanes with a score of 5-2 in the Western Hockey League (WHL). The standout performance came from Brandon Gorzynski, who scored one goal and contributed two assists, leading his team to victory.

The Hitmen showcased a strong offensive display, with additional goals scored by Hunter Aura, Ethan Moore, Caine Wilke, and Ben MacBeath. This win marks Calgary’s third victory of the season, bringing their record to 3-2-0. In goal, Eric Tu made 20 saves, solidifying the team’s defensive efforts.

On the other side, the Lethbridge Hurricanes, now with a record of 1-5-0, found the net twice through Hudson Kibblewhite and Gavin Lesiuk. Their goalie, Leif Oaten, faced a challenging game, stopping 31 of 36 shots directed at him.

Other WHL Highlights

In another match on the same day, the Saskatoon Blades defeated the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-3 in Brandon, Manitoba. Dominik Petr and Hunter Laing each scored two goals for the Blades, helping them improve their record to 4-2-0. Jordan Martin and David Lewandowski also contributed to the score. The Wheat Kings, struggling this season, fell to 0-4-1, with goals from Luke Mistelbacher, Jaxon Jacobson, and Chase Surkan.

Meanwhile, in Kennewick, Washington, the Everett Silvertips triumphed over the Tri-City Americans with a score of 5-3. Clarke Schaefer was instrumental, netting a goal and providing an assist. Additional goals from Shea Busch, Jesse Heslop, Jaxsin Vaughan, and Mirco Dufour powered the Silvertips to a strong 5-0-1 record. The Americans, now at 1-4-0, saw contributions from Tomas Racz, Charlie Elick, and Cruz Pavao.

Lastly, the Penticton Vees secured a commanding 5-1 victory against the Wenatchee Wild in Wenatchee, Washington. Diego Johnson scored twice, alongside goals from Jacob Kvasnicka, Morgan Tastad, and Tristan Petersen, bringing the Vees to a record of 4-2-1. Luka Shcherbyna managed the lone goal for the Wild, whose record now stands at 0-3-2.
