Allen George ‘Al’ Brown, 88, Remembered for Positivity and Service

The family of Allen George ‘Al’ Brown has announced his peaceful passing at the age of 88 on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the Sault Area Hospital. Known for his unwavering positivity and good nature, Al faced numerous health challenges over recent years but maintained a dignified approach to life until the end.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Janis Brown, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Tony, Steve (Sue), Richard (Cheryl), and Ellen (Danny), and a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren.

A Life of Service and Humor

Throughout his life, Al was known for his reliability. He was someone who could always be counted on, whether it was supporting family members, tackling projects for friends, or providing steady guidance. His reserved demeanor was complemented by a sharp wit and a great sense of humor, qualities that endeared him to many. Al embraced life with a spirit of adventure and steadfast faith.

Professionally, Al worked as an accountant at Algoma Steel, where he was respected for his dedication and work ethic. Friends and family remember him not just for his professional accomplishments but also for the warmth and kindness he brought to every interaction.

Funeral Arrangements and Tributes

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre located at 942 Great Northern Rd on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. The service will be officiated by Rev. Laurie Stevenson. Following the service, Al will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery.

The family has expressed gratitude to the staff of the Emergency Department at the Sault Area Hospital, Sault Ste. Marie Ambulance Services, and the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) for their compassionate care during Al’s final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
